312 (City of Canterbury) Squadron Cadets pay tribute to flying ace Major Edward Mannock VC
Tributes were paid to flying ace Major Edward Mannock VC at a service held at Canterbury Cathedral on Monday.
Major Mannock, affectionately known as Mick, was killed in action on July 26, 1918. He was a courageous and highly decorated officer, who was awarded a Distinguished Service Order, the Military Cross and Victoria Cross.
The Canterbury boy joined the Royal Flying Corps as an aircraft technician but rose through the ranks to become a flying supremo, recording more than 60 kills.
Monday's service was led by the Rev Eric Alder and was attended by members of the Canterbury branch of the Western Front Association, representatives of the RAF Association, who laid a wreath in his honour, and members of the 312 Canterbury Air Training Corps
