left: 40px; top: 120px; width: 750px; height: 160px; z-index: 3"> <p> Flight Sergeant Harry Lane, 18 was named by the CVO as the winner of the educational charity's prestigious Duke of Westminster Award. He was presented with the Award by Admiral the Right Honourable the Lord West of Spithead at the ceremony and luncheon at the Royal Air Force Club in London for his commitment to his time as a member of the air cadets, and to his community. </p> <p> Harry is an Air Cadet with 19 (Crawley) Squadron, HQ Sussex Wing Air Training Corps, and completed his CVQO led BTEC Diploma in Public Services through his involvement. He says, "The qualification will help me in my career as the knowledge I ve gained will directly assist me in my application to the Royal Air Force." </p> <p> The Duke of Westminster Award is an annual competition organised by CVQO to recognise the most outstanding cadet from four cadet forces: the Combined Cadet Force, the Sea Cadet Corps, the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps. </p> <p> The nine finalists for the award have been selected from 300 nominations, from over 20,000 eligible CVQO learners nationwide. These are young people who possess a wide range of skills and abilities and have overcome personal challenges, as well as demonstrating a consistently high level of commitment to their communities and their peers. </p> <p> Lord West said at the ceremony, "It is always a pleasure to hear of young people, from all walks of life, from different parts of the country and different backgrounds making a real contribution to their local communities while enriching their own lives and prospects for the future." </p> <p> Following the presentation, Harry, along with the eight runners-up, were also awarded with their ILM Level 3 qualifications, earned through their activities at the Duke of Westminster s Award selection event in April. On 15th July, they departs for a three week expedition to South Africa where they will undertake an environmental awareness course in Kwa Zulu Natal and a cultural project working with and teaching orphaned children.
