Kent Wing’s Cadets Help At Record Breaking Air Show

Well over 200 cadets and Staff from Squadrons across Kent Wing were in action on 7 and 8 June in support of the 2008 Biggin Hill International Air fair. For over 15 years Kent Wing has supplied cadets to help Air Displays International (ADI) to run the annual event at this famous former RAF fighter station. Cadets carry out a variety of roles including helping at the points of entry and providing security for the aircraft in the static park. 2008 saw a record-breaking attendance of over 70,000 people on the Sunday of the two day show.

For the ATC, the event is organised by Flt Lt Richard Turner RAFVR(T) who said that “to see cadets return year after year to support this major Wing event is great. It is the biggest public event in the Wing’s calendar”. These views were reinforced by Cpl Rhys Horlock from 1051 (Dartford) Sqn who said “This has been a great exercise and I have learnt loads and I am looking forward to helping out next year”.

ADI’s Press Officer, Nick Smith, added that “I am always pleased to see the cadets at our shows. Their disciplined and enthusiastic attitude makes them a great asset to us”.

It was also an unusual first for members of 40F (Maidstone) Squadron. The Squadron fielded triplets in the form of Cadets Marcos, James and Lee Postill all attending their first air show as members of the ATC. Another “first”, this time for Cdt Sgt Jennie Collins from 402 (Gravesend) Sqn was when she was interviewed, live, on LBC Radio from the show.
